PRP in Aesthetic Medicine: Facial Rejuvenation and Hair Treatment

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is one of the most widely discussed tools in regenerative aesthetic medicine. The underlying idea is simple and fascinating: using the growth factors contained in the patient’s own blood to stimulate the natural renewal of the skin and tissues. In this in-depth article we focus on aesthetic use; for a complete overview of the technology, please see our main article dedicated to PRP.

How PRP works on the skin

PRP is obtained from a small blood sample, centrifuged to concentrate the platelets and their growth factors. Once applied, this concentrate stimulates the production of collagen and elastin and promotes skin microvascularisation. The desired result is firmer, brighter and more even skin, with a softening of fine lines and an overall improvement in tissue quality.

Facial rejuvenation

In facial rejuvenation, PRP is used to improve the texture and radiance of the skin, especially in more delicate areas such as the eye contour, cheeks and neck. As it is based on components of the patient’s own blood, it is perceived as a biological and well-tolerated approach. It is important, however, to keep expectations realistic: PRP acts on skin quality and generally requires several sessions, with progressive and gradual results.

Hair treatment

On the scalp, PRP can support hair strengthening in the early stages of thinning, particularly in androgenetic alopecia. Evidence indicates that, in selected patients, it can be a valuable support, especially when integrated into a broader, personalised pathway. Here too, the preliminary assessment is decisive in identifying who can benefit from it.

Safety and quality of preparation

The quality of the treatment depends decisively on the medical device used. At Medical Center Sorengo, PRP is prepared with a closed, sterile system compliant with Swiss regulations, in which the blood never comes into contact with the external environment. Every treatment is performed and supervised by specialist physicians and qualified nursing staff.

The Medical Center Sorengo approach

Aesthetic PRP at Medical Center Sorengo is part of a personalised medicine pathway: every treatment starts from an individual assessment, in order to establish whether and how this technology is indicated and to define realistic expectations.
