Medical Center Sorengo runs a medical and nursing on-call service, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, all year round. When your own doctor is unavailable, when a symptom worries you over the weekend, or when you need a clinical assessment without spending hours in an emergency room, the Centre answers and agrees the fastest route with you.

In a life-threatening emergency, for example acute chest pain, severe breathing difficulty, loss of consciousness or signs of stroke, call 144 immediately. The on-call service is the reference point for urgent problems that are not life-threatening.
When to call the on-call service
The service is designed for situations that cannot wait for the surgery to open: high or persistent fever, influenza and respiratory infections, abdominal pain, colic, cystitis and urinary infections, wounds that need assessment, mild allergic reactions, flare-ups of chronic conditions, and the need for an urgent medical opinion about an elderly or frail relative.
The situation is assessed and the next step agreed accordingly: immediate treatment advice, a prompt appointment at the Centre, activation of the nursing service or, where necessary, referral to the most appropriate hospital.

A service of your medical centre, not a call centre
The service belongs to a multi-specialty medical centre with eighteen doctors, an in-house laboratory and advanced diagnostics in Sorengo, on the edge of Lugano. If your situation needs further investigation, the pathway continues here: consultation, laboratory tests, imaging and specialists in one place, with your clinical history already available.
The Centre is open to the public Monday to Friday from 8:00 to 20:00 and on Saturday from 8:00 to 17:00. The medical and nursing on-call service covers all remaining hours, nights and public holidays included.
For international patients and residents
The team assists patients in English as well as Italian. If you live between several countries, spend part of the year in Ticino, or are in the region for work or treatment, you can use the service without being a registered patient of the Centre, and continue with our specialists afterwards if you wish.

Does the on-call service replace the emergency room?
No. Life-threatening emergencies require a call to 144. The on-call service is the fast answer for urgent problems that do not need immediate hospital intervention, and it often avoids long waits in an emergency department.
How much does it cost?
Services are billed according to the Swiss medical tariff in force and recognised by insurance under the terms of your policy, with deductible and cost sharing. Patients who prefer to pay privately, without involving an insurer, can do so. You are informed before any procedure.
Do I need to be an existing patient of the Centre?
No. The service answers anyone who calls. After the first contact you can continue your care with our specialists if you wish.
Do you speak English?
