Aesthetic surgery too begins with a diagnosis. Not every request that reaches a plastic surgeon is answered with an operation, and the first consultation is there precisely to establish that.
Who operates
Dr Giorgio Giovannelli, FMH specialist in Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery. Plastic surgery began as a reconstructive discipline and the aesthetic side grew inside that tradition: this is why the first step is always to understand what we are looking at.
What we treat
- Facial surgery. Eyelids, ears, nose, facial contour, scar revision.
- Breast surgery. Reconstructive and aesthetic, including asymmetries and revision of previous procedures.
- Body and post-bariatric surgery. Reshaping after significant weight loss, abdomen, limbs.
- Skin surgery. Moles, skin lesions, skin cancers, scars. This is oncological and reconstructive surgery before it is aesthetic, and it is a substantial part of the work.
Where surgery takes place
Outpatient procedures are performed on site at Medical Center Sorengo. Major procedures requiring anaesthesia and an overnight stay are performed at a partner clinic. In both cases the assessment, the preparation and the follow-up stay here, with the same doctor and the same clinical file.
Before, during and after
Before. Medical consultation, history, physical examination, measurements and clinical photographs, laboratory tests where needed, assessment of anaesthetic risk. At the end, a written report and a written estimate.
During. One surgeon responsible, from the indication to the final check.
After. Scheduled follow-up and, if something goes wrong, a Medical and Nursing Service on duty 24 hours a day, seven days a week, in the same building where you were seen.
The right to a no
A share of first consultations ends without a surgical indication. It happens when the expected result does not justify the risk, when the timing is wrong, when the request comes from a problem that surgery does not solve. In those cases the report says so, and the consultation has still produced something useful: an answer.
Complications
Every surgical procedure carries risks, and no result can be guaranteed. The risks specific to the proposed procedure are explained in consultation and set out in writing in the informed consent, together with the pathway foreseen should a complication occur. Complications are managed here, without sending the patient elsewhere.
Scars and outcomes
